yoshiz living the dream
A great week…
Shabbat dinner at our home in Jerusalem surrounded by family and friends. We take turns sharing something good from the week that has passed. Ariela smiles and says, “I don’t know, it was just a great week!”
Maybe I really am living the dream?
Happy Sukkot!
Put up the sukkah the other night with the girls. Not the same as the redwood frame sukkah from NoCal but building a Sukkah in Jerusalem does have its advantages.
1. The city cuts the schach for you.
2. You can buy the 4 species (etrog and lulav) on almost every corner.
3. Jerusalem is alive with the sound of people shaking their lulav.
Next week, take some time to enjoy the outdoors. Eat some fall fruits. Enjoy good bread dipped in olive oil. Have a glass of wine or grape juice. Give thanks…
This video contains the first 1/3 of my Rosh Hashana Sermon—“On the Hook”
(File was too big to include entire thing—and really, who needs it? A little bit of Yoshi goes a LONG way…)

Hope you all had a wonderful set of High Holy Days. Jerusalem on Yom Kippur is something else—absolutely no cars except for the occasional ambulance or police vehicle. So quiet…
Except for the bicycles. Lots of them. The kids take over the streets. We walked home from HUC services at 8 p.m. and the girls went home to get their bikes. So much fun! It was a scene—hundreds and hundreds of people walking and biking down Emek R’faim. The girls saw lots of their friends from school. It was fun to see how many people we know already!
Our New Home!
We moved in on Thursday—our “lift” arrived from America. Everything came (as far as we can tell). Only damage was to the piano keyboard. Technician coming tomorrow to give us an estimate (insurance will probably cover).
Girls are doing great—school started on September 1 and they are all adjusting amazingly well. Isa and Ariela tell us they “love” their new school. They’ve had play-dates every day. Next door neighbor’s kids are adorable and they play every afternoon.
Our dear friends Leon and Bruria and their 5 gorgeous kids came over for dinner tonight. We are lucky—far from our beloved family and friends in the US but surrounded by friends old and new here.
